Background information: The idea of actively preventing disease has been around for over 1,000 years. The United States began to move toward widespread vaccine use in 1812 with formation of the U.S. Vaccine Agency.
Question: Why are some of these vaccines needed if the disease are not common any more?
Answer: These diseases are less common in larder parts due to vaccines. If vaccines were not given, the bacteria and viruses that cause these diseases could begin to infect more and more children again.
